LABL is currently examining how bilingual adults are influenced by their native language while listening to second language sounds and words. Our findings thus far demonstrate that the two languages within the bilingual mind interact and are inseparable.

We are also conducting a study to measure whether a clay-based language stimulation program with young children, ages 2-5, is effective in improving vocabulary and oral language skills. The ultimate goals of this study are to 1) implement an intervention program for monolingual and bilingual children with a variety of language disorders; and 2) to examine whether the language intervention is beneficial for cognitive abilities (e.g., executive functions), given the domain-general link between language and cognition.
